I can also well understand people's fervent dislike for the subscription model - but sadly, its the new way of business. Ulysses devs went subscription to justify working on updates and give customers 'quality' - the idea being they can 'enhance' the product but its a double edged sword for them because if the app starts going downhill then people will just stop paying. Up to them I suppose, but at the moment I've 'hopped' into using Ulysses (sacrilege I know and its Mac only) and quite liking it so far. L&L don't 'need' a subscription their own accounts show they're sitting on plenty of cash if they want to spend it on dev work. The latest accounts filing for Literature & Latte (Oct 2022) show their cash reserves a little over £5.5 million, with a staff count of 5.
